What happens when brightly colored buckets, splashing water, and an energized group of dancers meet the summer streets? You get SPLASH!—a site-specific dance performance that is playful, surprising, and always a crowd favorite.
Created for six or more performers, SPLASH! is a structured improvisation set to an exciting collage of music inspired by water. Dancers in bathing suits move through the space with colorful buckets filled with water, creating an animated performance that is as visually striking as it is fun. Every splash, gesture, and interaction adds to the joyful atmosphere.
Designed to adapt to its surroundings, SPLASH! Has been performed in many types of outdoor venues, including parks, public plazas, festivals, and community spaces through the years, bringing audiences together through movement, music, and play. A couple of my favorite performances were when it started to rain, that didn’t stop us!
SPLASH! was originally created for a drained outdoor pool and premiered at Dance Now at Carmine Pool in New York City in 2003. Since then, it has continued to delight audiences in new environments, transforming each location into a temporary playground, and one of our longest running dances. Summer would not be the same without at least one Splash performance.
And the fun doesn’t stop when the performance ends. After the dance, children are invited to participate, making SPLASH! an interactive experience for audiences of all ages. With its bold colors, infectious energy, and joyful sense of surprise, SPLASH! turns an ordinary outdoor space into something extraordinary. It is a celebration of water, community, and the pure pleasure of dancing together.
