PREMIERE

Malmous Slott, Malmo, Sweden, September 2019

Dance Entropy aims to initiate collaborations at Castles throughout Europe working with local dancers and original cast members to create new renditions of the structure that are unique to each castle, its environment and history.

Castle Stories is a site-specific work conceived and directed by Valerie Green, and choreographed by Green in collaboration with local dancers in an intense two-week period in Malmo, Sweden. The site of this original dance work — Malmous Slott — is an imposing yet beautiful castle that was first built in 1434 by King Eric of Pomerania. The evening length dance was inspired by the environmental surroundings and history of the fortress, and includes original storytelling from the participant’s realities. Take a journey and follow the dancers down the drawbridge, through the gatehouse, across the courtyard, up hidden staircases, inside grand ballrooms and exiting out of the iconic entrance room in this unique and gorgeously rendered contemporary dance work.

Press Quotes

Valerie Green’s dynamic project ‘Castle Stories’ gave us new perspectives on our castle and its surroundings. To see the varying history of the castle interpreted through dance was a great experience for our visitors and us.
